October 14, 2019 - Hallelujah!

This was the last week of the transfer and I have been all over the place. On wednesday the car broke down as we were driving to a shop to get it fixed, apparently there was a hole in the radiator, it broke down literally 200 yards away from the shop so we got out and pushed the car across 3 lanes of traffic into a parking lot. It was so funny, until we had to wait in a McDonald's for 3 hours before we could get picked up. Thursday Elder Pace went to the temple with a bunch of other missionaries as a year mark thing so I was with Elder Cosgrove and Elder Jensen for the day. They had these cornish hens a member gave to them in the freezer so I had the good idea of frying it for lunch. I made just a simple batter to coat them, flour, eggs, milk, salt pepper, you know just something light, then I cut the chicken up and fried it, and not gonna lie I cooked it perfectly! No salmonella and a full stomach is a great combination. Friday we were able to help the sisters in our district with a service project for a non member lady. She lives on a farm and she has horses, so that was so sick, we got to wash a horse. I am the horse whisperer(picture me with my hand on the horses head softly gently singing old town road to this horse) none of the other elders understood because they have been out to long but it was hilarious. I got to chop down a small tree with a machete because she didn't have anything else so that was sick. Serving out there was so fun.

Sad news, Elder Pace actually had to go home for some health reasons, super weird dropping your trainer off at the airport. So I am now in a trio with Elder Dockstader and Elder Swensen in Dunn Avenue(highest baptizing area in the mission). Which is the most ghetto part of downtown Jacksonville, they said it's not uncommon to hear gunshots, and we here sirens all the time. Dont worry I feel completely safe. It's definitely different from Julington creek. First day there I got roped into singing at a concert of a lady at the church for breast cancer. Just imagine pure southern African American culture, a bunch of black ladies singing and playing the piano. Lots of amens and hallelujah's. Definitely an experience and not sure it was appropriate to be held in the church building. We sang a song she wrote called amen, 6 white missionaries singing background to an all black crowd, we killed it so you know light work. Then we had the best fried chicken at a place called hip hop chicken. Super ghetto super good, best combo out there. Then we had church which was good. After we went to this ladies house for dinner, sister Seymour. She is the absolute best, she fed us then we went and sat out on her dock for a while. She lives right on the river. It was so nice to just relax and talk to this awesome lady. Honestly I love Dunn Ave so much already and I've only been here for 3 days, I want serve here so bad, the work moves so fast.

Anyway I'm not getting transferred, so staying in julington for another six weeks which isn't bad, Elder Dockstader who I've been in a trio with is going to be my new companion. I'm pumped. So yeah that's my week.

Love and miss you all
Elder Barlow

(Quick question, do you think if all the concrete in the world was flattened to a 1/2 inch sheet would it cover the world? Big discussion here in dunn Ave-let me know if you have the answer)
